. . .the longer a child can stay in school, the better their chances of success in life and escape the cycle of poverty. Many children start to work very early and desperate families consider food more important than school supplies. HUGS provides these students with tuition, school supplies, uniforms, shoes and necessities so they can receive an education.

Janni, the founder and director, has been working in Guatemala since 2006. Janni is a retired RN with 47 years of experience including pediatrics, adults, and hospice. She has also earned a BS in Biblical Studies from Toccoa Falls College and a Master of Divinity from Emory University. Janni divides her time between the U.S and Panajachel, Guatemala. When Janni is in her home in Maysville, GA, her heart still resides in Panajachel.

Lake Atitlan is a stunning volcanic lake in the Solola department of Guatemala. Several towns and small villages dot the perimeter of this impressive natural wonder. Our main office is in Panajachel with services extending to several surrounding villages.
